What is a Hyperlink?

A hyperlink (also called a link) is a reference to an external document that is connected to a particular word or image within a another document. When a user clicks on a hyperlink it can point to a whole document or to a specific element within a document. Hypertext is text with hyperlinks, and is commonly viewed within a web browser.
